We have taken pictures of some custom table tops that we fabricated. We are able to use 4/4 (1″), 6/4 (1 1/2″), and 8/4 (2″) boards in this process. The reason that we use the terms 4/4, 6/4, and 8/4 is because this is the thickness of the boards BEFORE they are planed and sanded. In reality, the finished thickness will be approximately 1/4″ less than the original board thickness. On boards that are 6/4 and 8/4, we use a product called the Festool Domino. They are pieces of solid beech that measure 4″ in length. We have a special tool that drills a 1″ x 2″ hole into each inside edge of the board. When inserted in multiple locations with our wood glue, they seams are extremely strong and will not separate.
For now, we are limiting the length of tables, countertops, and islands to 100″ in length.
